The Co:Here Housing Society, along with its partner, Salsbury Community Society, have worked for years “to respond to the crisis of homelessness through the construction of an affordable and holistic housing community of 26 units on the southwest corner of Victoria Drive and 1st Avenue”. The 1,845 m2, four-storey building consists of community space and communal kitchen on the main floor, 26 residential units on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors, and one level of underground parkade.
Yellowridge completed construction on the compact site at the busy intersection of Victoria Drive and 1st Avenue in Vancouver. A courtyard and community garden provides outdoor space and garden area for residents and co-residents to grow their own fresh food.
Due to the space constraints of the site, shotcrete and lock block shoring was required on the south and east sides of the excavation. The building structure consists of a concrete foundation and parkade, suspended concrete slab main floor, and pre-fabricated wood frame wall panels. Exterior finishes consist of cementitious plank and metal siding, SBS roofing, and vinyl and aluminum doors and windows.
