Cawston, BC
The NtámÅ‚qÉ™n Snm'aÊ”m'áyaÊ”tn Band School in Cawston, BC, is a 1,350 m² educational facility built to meet the growing needs of the Lower Similkameen Indian Band community. Designed with both the present and future in mind, the school includes an early childhood education centre and serves students from Kindergarten through Grade 7.

Incorporating a collaborative approach to design, the school goes beyond the traditional classroom setting by integrating spaces that support early childhood education, after-school care, and community events. The facility is thoughtfully laid out, with three core classrooms, a dedicated pre-school and kindergarten wing, and specialized language and cultural spaces that reflect and preserve the community’s rich heritage. Additionally, a flexible multi-purpose room can be adapted for various community functions, further enhancing the school’s role as a hub for learning and social connection.

The administration wing houses offices for the Band’s education administration staff, as well as workspaces for the educational team. This purpose-built facility not only supports the educational needs of the students but also strengthens the social and cultural fabric of the Lower Similkameen Indian Band community.
